We are always trying to make @Vivaldi better and our latest release is another example of that. This time our focus was on hiding the UI. Why we do that? Because some of you have been requesting a minimal UI and that is what we have now delivered, but with the UI always close and also fully under your control. Try it out and you will understand! It can be accessed from a button in the status bar or through CTRL F11. Hint : Try associating it with fullscreen (F11), for an even better experience! There is a setting for that, of course.

Another function we added is follow tab. Tie together two tabs side by side. Click a link on the left side and view it on the right side. Great for going through search results without having to go back and forth or viewing images or the like.

@jon @Vivaldi Now maybe you can hide the sidebar instead of opening it every single time I open a new window. Doesn't matter whether I close the window with it closed, whether I shut down the program with it closed, NOPE - new window means open sidebar. It is slowly driving me insane and yes, there is a bug report and no, I don't care about hiding the whole UI, I JUST WANT THE SIDEBAR TO STAY HIDDEN WHEN I HIDE IT.

PS. This is the reason I do not recommend Vivaldi to friends anymore. Otherwise, it's a terrific browser, but this bug is infuriating and I won't inflict it on people I like.

@mitten i'm not sure what you mean.
regarding the auto-hide ui, have you tried disabling the sidebar/panel from its options?

@vekkq When I open any new window, the side panel is visible. I can close the panel, but if I open another window, that window opens with the side panel open. I do not want to disable the side panel entirely - I do use it . I just want Vivaldi to respect the fact that I have closed it and not open it automatically.

@mitten it opens sporadically for me too. I have no idea how to solve it. I eventually set the panel to floating to collapse it quickly, but it probably won't keep it as usable for you.

As a developer - but not a Vivaldi developer: This is the most annoying kind of bug, and the hardest to track down (and thus fix). A bug that happens to one person, and not on any development machine.

I have reported bugs myself, and Vivaldi devs have always fixed them (unlike Firefox, where bugs would either sit unfixed for 10+ years, or be closed without ever fixing anything). But fixing a bug requires finding it, and that is basically impossible for something that only happens to one user.

@leeloo @jon @Vivaldi The bug has been reported, it affects more than just one user, the Vivaldi devs are aware of the bug, and they have chosen not to prioritize it.

And they can reproduce it?

The last bug I reported got fixed in the second update after reporting it, even though I am not aware of anyone other than me being affected and there were workarounds.

@jon @Vivaldi this has practical uses both for use on the Steam Deck where screen real estate in Desktop mode is somewhat limited, and for streaming browser content to video without having to crop the window just so!

This sounds like what ice been saying lately - I want a browser I don't have to fight with, that just stays out of my way the 95% of the time I don't need it.

@jon @Vivaldi I recently was thinking about a full screen/focus feature when I wanted to read something without all the browser chrome in the way. Happy to see the next day my wish was granted 😅😉 Needless to say: I love it!

@jon @Vivaldi with the tab bar floating away from the screen edge, it becomes harder to click tabs.
the edge normally helps to stop the mouse cursor from overshooting its hit target.

@vekkq @jon @Vivaldi It could have a longer delay (2 seconds) before it hides again, I agree. And a larger hitbox: it tends to hide when I have the mouse on the bookmark bar (ON it, not outside of it).

EDIT: it occurs because I set the UI scale to 120%.

@jon @Vivaldi it would be nice for Vivaldi to step into the email provider space. We need an EU email provider with a robust architecture, privacy-oriented, and, why not, running on 100% renewable energy.

@jon @Vivaldi That's the reason, why I can't use Vivaldi anymore. As long as it is more important for you to pimp the UI and ignore security issues like fingerprinting, ... Vivaldi is NO option for me !! And that's hard for me, because I like the browser and the team. But best in class security is a MUST HAVE !!! They are no begtech, no US ... but from Germany, and they earn money until a few weeks ago with user location data via US companys...

still pondering using vivaldi instead of thunderbird and betterbird, but I can't see if I can get back to the functionality of outlook - using pop3 (I want my stuff with me) and setting a mulitude of accounts up to feed ONE in-tray for the lot and then use an assortment of foldes made by me for sorting and filing. (if a lot of accounts showing below ok).

and for the calendar - why does the tiny little window to add an event have to fit within the date? It's so small you can't see properly. Why can't I make it the size I need?
