reading systemd merge request adding a user age field in userdb and seeing 'em ask claude to review is just icing on the shit cake.

(from
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/40954)
@siina Any forks without this crap ?
@yama I don't know. I don't use systemd on most of my devices, but I imagine there will be if this continues.
@siina nvm already found a fork without it x.x
also found a fork for "ageless linux"
@siina @yama systemd on gentoo?

@siina @yama ah nvm i misinterpreted this as “there will be systemd on my devices”

anyway if you use systemd and want to avoid the age thing sepcifically, there is https://codeberg.org/axtlos/gardenerdb

gardenerdb

Drop-in standalone implementation of systemd-userdb

Codeberg.org

@siina @yama systemd is such a colossus to maintain that i find it more likely there'll be tooling to instead migrate to other inits more easily

if there will be forks, i don't expect them to be particularly long-lived
