What about a second helicopter flying above the first one, slingload carrying a cage big enough to entirely protect the first helicopter?

Precisely. Space is the ultimate high ground. Once the cage tower is high enough that it can be dangled from a geosynchronous orbital platform the defense will be impenetrable.
