Defence — age verification or age estimation

7 (1) It is not a defence to a charge under section 5 that the organization believed that the young person referred to in that section was at least 18 years of age unless the organization implemented a prescribed age-verification or age-estimation method to limit access to the pornographic material made available for commercial purposes to individuals who are at least 18 years of age.

Just read about this this morning, might contemplate another switcharoo… agelesslinux.org

This age verification has been talked about for years now, but this is just privacy invasion with a veil of “save the children”, which it won’t help in the least. Education and parenting might help with protecting the children, but a good number of parents don’t have the time as they did 40-50 years ago due to suppressed wages over a lifetime and as such -both- parents now work more hours than their parents/grandparents had to.

Ageless Linux — Software for Humans of Indeterminate Age

There are parental controls and apps for almost everything. You don’t need to strip away everyones last bit of privacy, just because you refuse to make no time for your children.
spreading like virus smh

But how, and why?

How can it be globally coordinated when nobody knows why its being globally coordinated.

Someone did some digging and linked Meta to shadow organizations sponsoring these bills, and suggested that it’s a way to improve advertising because they can like real identity to activity. I have no evidence though

Age-verification and age-estimation methods (2) Before prescribing any age-verification or age-estimation method under paragraph (1)‍(b), the Governor in Council must ensure (a) is highly effective;

they’ll bullshit their way through that one, no way you can make that “highly effective”, it’s all political posturing under the guise of eroding privacy

Public Bill (Senate) S-209 (45-1) - First Reading - Protecting Young Persons from Exposure to Pornography Act - Parliament of Canada

We’ll see how it plays out but I am at least heartened by sections e and f.
