Where does β€œboard member saying something that’s obviously nonsense about the company finances” fit on our hierarchy of market-legible signals?

@mhoye The ability to detect *and call out* that unmistakable odour of bullshit remains one of life's key skills, but seemingly eludes a large portion of the population.
@mikro2nd Same and, man oh man, is this not a popular skill to have.
@mhoye I dont know much about the AI bubble but I will make a prediction. The one group of professionals who will end up making vast profits from the bubble are the Lawyers.
@mhoye can't help but laugh. masnick, supposedly a journalist, playing dumb.
@mawhrin Speaking truth to power is outdated thinking, these days we speak fluff to stonks.

@mhoye @mawhrin

disappointed about Masnick

edit: although, come on, he's on the board? Kind of a conflict of interest

@glasspusher @mhoye it all checks out if you remember that he's a technolibertarian.
@glasspusher @mhoye he will always take a position against the state, but he very rarely will find a reason to constrain a private enterprise.

@mawhrin @glasspusher

A journalist isn't just a stenographer who's picked a side.

@mhoye @glasspusher very much so. (there's a reason i'm blocked by masnick both here and on bsky.)

@glasspusher @mhoye @mawhrin Come on?

(1) If it's a conflict of interest he should be shutting up not lying.

(2) It's disappointing that he's on the board of such a slimy org to begin with. But we already knew that.

@mawhrin @mhoye it's clearly been made his job to draw fire. his reputation and history of plain-spokenness both give him plenty of points he can afford to lose, aloud in public.
@mhoye two simple words in the English language - we forgot.
@mhoye @davidgerard @_elena who among us hasn't been too busy to pen the most basic of press releases about a $100m investment in your company
@interpipes @mhoye @davidgerard and IN THIS ECONOMY!!!!!
@_elena @mhoye @davidgerard this isn't some bullshit shenanigans like "we told them we only needed to borrow $100m but then couldn't actually pay it back and we've had to force the lender to take stock instead and now they are an investor!" is it
if they're too busy to make annoucements, maybe there's a market opportunity for building a platform that allows easy and quick public posting? maybe for real short things so it doesn't take much time. some kind of micro blog

@mhoye hmm. Hmm. Now I'm wondering if I should drop techdirt from my rss feeds.

... nah. But I think I'll create a new folder for it. Maybe I'll put it beside pluralistic and gruber. People who seem to have well-respected opinions, inconceivably (to me) frequent output, and a couple of frustrating blind spots.

@mhoye I hate when I get $100 million and just forget to tell everyone because I have soooo many emails to get through.
