Predictably, the strategy of painting all criticism of Israel as antisemitism is finally biting back hard. But that does NOT excuse antisemitism. If something would sound bad if appended to, say, Muslims or POC, it sounds bad if appended to Jews.

@jmkorhonen.fi
I'm old enough that my measuring stick goes the other way. "Would this sound bad if [group name] was replaced with 'Jews'?"

And differentiating between Jews & Israelis & the Israeli state & Likud, I don't really get how that's hard for people to do.

@Gurre @jmkorhonen.fi Same here. But anecdotally, an experience I had with Americans, back in 2016 when the orange monster had just risen to the throne.

I had to professionally interact with Americans, and couldn't get out of my head that one in three or so of the folks I had to shake hands with, likely had voted for Trump. Well, they were scientists, so the likelihood was probably a bit lower, but still... I had to force myself to behave normally.

Was I 'anti-American'?

Remembering when 'anti-Americanism' was the bogeyman back in he sixties, with anti-Vietnam demonstrations and such in the Netherlands. It was the smear used by the right wing, just like 'antisemitism' is used by the Zionists and their apologists today.

Idly wondering if the propaganda experts of both learned from each other's experiences.

@jmkorhonen.fi There are for sure a lot of people who seem to think “Israel is doing bad things so maybe I can have a little antisemitism, as a treat.”
