At the Battle of Waterloo the British artillery had the opportunity to fire directly at Napoleon Bonaparte, but the action was stopped by the Duke of Wellington. “No, no; I won’t have it. It is not the business of commanders to be firing upon one another”.

Now, of course, we have a bomb-first-think-later mentality.

Or perhaps we have no mentality at all.

@Spoon Contemporary insanity aside, this sounds like classism to me.

@oheso

I have to apologise I'm obsessed with history and it's connections and disconnections.

We are living in times when our fearless leaders are determined to demonstrate quite how ignorant they are.

@Spoon No disagreement here. This stone has a lot of facets and when our observations differ, we're looking at different sides.

I admire your obsession and wish I shared it. Unfortunately I'm the product of a US public education. My partner is fascinated by Japanese history.

@oheso

Such an interesting point.

From (a long way) outside the US there is much that seems very really chaotic and actually counterproductive particularly health and education.

I had a classical education which provided me with the intellectual tools I needed to learn.

I'm mostly stuck in Homeric classical Greece - form my sins I suppose.
