Android will hide some app sideloading behind a new one-time security process - Lemmy.World

Users will first have to enable developer mode in settings, confirm they’re not being coached into disabling security, restart their phone (to cut off any phone calls), then wait a day and confirm their identity with biometric authentication or a pin before installing any apps.

Wtf

Indeed WTF, but it’s still a half-win for power users, while also trying to protect grandma from scammers. 🤷
No. It’s a loss for everybody. It doesn’t save grandma, and it prevents power users from using the device they own.

Did you even read the article? It block sideloading, the first time, once, for 24 hours, and locks the options behind the Developers Menu. Do you not have 24 hours patience to enable sideloading on new/updated devices?

They ain’t blocking sideloading, they’re just making it more inconvenient for novices to enable under the whim of scammer directions. If it’s too hard for you to enable Developer Mode and follow the directions, well maybe you shouldn’t be sideloading apps in the first place.

Or maybe I should be allowed to use a device I purchase however I damn well please.
