If you got good networks IRL then you can skip LinkedIn entirely, but unfortunately we're not such people... It's not about having a complete profile, but if you got things to show off then you gotta let people find your presence (that's how I got referrals after begposting there), though I suppose if one's really cracked then a good GitHub profile can serve the same purpose. Also their job search is more comprehensive in my opinion.
