Even in a world of extremes, some events still stand out to me. This is one. All-time monthly records are being shattered.

The size of this ridge across the western U.S. is truly striking for March, and we see a very clear climate change connection.

@ZLabe

It reached 81 F (about 27 C) in Salt Lake City today. I lived there in the 1980s and for a few years around 2000 and during that time, that sort of temperature was unheard of in March. It was damned unusual in April. It normally didn’t happen for the first time until about mid-May.

@ZLabe And the snowpack situation in Utah? Unrelentingly bad. Here’s a picture from high up at Deer Valley, a major ski resort a bit east of Salt Lake City. At this time of year, all the mountains should be covered in snow and even the valley near the reservoir should have at least patchy snow much of the time. There is *no snow* except in very favorable locations (like parts of the ski resort itself) or at the very highest elevations.

There’s another week or so of 10+ C above normal temps that are simply going to clobber what’s left of the snowpack.

@dpnash Wow, that is just shocking to see.
@dpnash @ZLabe Who needed snow anyways? Like what would you even use it for? Water runoff to supply people with clean drinking water? Why would you need that?
@dpnash @ZLabe
I live in Cache Valley. We should have several inches to a foot or more of snow on the ground. My neighbor was out mowing his yard today. 😬
