Photos from DEFINITELY PARADISE by Alvinluong at Mercer Union. The exhibition continues Luong's exploration and interrogation of the Malaysian island of Bidong through its past inhabitants and present aquatic wildlife, bringing together its history as a refugee settlement following the America-Vietnam war and its present state as a site for coral reef conservation/restoration.
This latest work centers around Luong's conversation with Lan Thiệu Nguyen, a coral growing enthusiast in the US whose path of migration, like the artist's family, can be traced back to Bidong Island.
