It's passing strange that #Toronto still has an airport so close to its densely-inhabited downtown.

Convenient for the lucky few, but also a source of noise pollution and deadly PM2.5 particulates.

Now the premier of #Ontario...

...Doug "Buck-a-Beer" Ford, who never met a fossil-fuel vehicle he didn't love, wants to expand it, and open it up to jets rather than just propeller planes.

That's a bad idea. Canada is trying to build high-speed rail to cut down on polluting short-haul flights.

Most flights out of Billy Bishop go to #Ottawa and #Montreal, which will be accessible by Alto trains in a couple of hours.

We need to invest in railways, not build more runways. More in this week's High Speed dispatch:

@straphanger The premier added he would also like to see more rail stops planned for Ontario. β€œMaybe make a stop in Kingston, because it’s a little too weighted on the (Quebec) side of the border,” Ford added. β€œThey have a few stops, but we need a couple more stops here in Ontario.”

Deviating from the Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal corridor to serve a tertiary city that already has the best rail service in the country relative to its size shows he doesn’t understand the project.

@straphanger he also doesn’t realize that Ontario will get more stations once the Toronto-Quebec project is complete and Alto is extended to Southwest Ontario.
