British soldier in Afghanistan (William Skeoch Cumming, painted 1894 AD)

“A scrimmage in a Border Station

A canter down some dark defile

Two thousand pounds of education

Drops to a ten-rupee jezail

The Crammer’s boast, the Squadron’s pride,

Shot like a rabbit in a ride!”

How miserable would a kilt be in Afghanistan? It seems like the polar opposite clothing for the area.
In northern Iraq I hung my laundry between two eucalyptus trees. My last go around in Baghdad it snowed. Weather will surprise you. I think the freedom of movement over rocks would make the kilt a solid choice, assuming weather agrees.
Sounds less terrible than swamp ass and bollocks, if you ask me.
