Spending my afternoon challenging some fellow artists in a discord.

Pushing back on the "I don;t pay attention to the colour of my models, it's just about the art for me. I don't have the spoons to care about the rest of it"

Took the approach of "That's fair, but it's important to me to push back against white supremacy even in art and the other media I surround myself with." Basically pointing out it's important to me, not being aggressive with them.

It's landing well!

#art #BeTheShire

It started with me commenting that small white women especially are over-represented in art. (we were discussing nude portraits)

So many ppl were just like "eh, I just draw what I want". But I think I was able to gently point out that even THAT matters, when POC models are primarily fetishized or otherwise seen through a colonialist lens.

I'm feeling some personal progress that I was able to bring it up gently instead of starting a fight.
