The amount of websites that suddenly want access to the WebGL API while definitely not displaying high-performance 2D or 3D graphics on a  page 🤔.

Before it was adtech, now it’s “let us check you’re not a bot” stuff. And also still adtech. We can always solve the problem with more tracking!

@ohno It's to make sure you're using a hardware GPU, not a software GPU. It's dumb but it's the only thing that really works consistently.

@cadey Ahhh I can see that. I wonder how long that’s going to work. AI companies aren’t exactly lacking in GPUs, though I suppose it’s not what they want to spend them on.

@ohno fun fact: most of the AI inference GPUs can't render graphics. So they're not even the right kind of GPU!
