I'm working on some automation to do multiplatform testing in qemu and, like, COSMIC is *fast* in way I wasn't expecting. GNOME and KDE are kinda sluggish on qemu[1] when moving windows around, etc. COSMIC has only minimal delay and hardly any visual stutter.

Kinda makes me want to try COSMIC for my desktop.

[1] qemu-kvm on x86_64 w/ -display sdl,gl=on and -device virtio-gpu

Compositors inside qemu with `-cpu host` and `-device virtio-gpu`:

sway, labwc: Lots of screen tearing and rendering glitches. it's ... it's bad. It almost acts as an example of what Wayland was designed to solve... except it's actually Wayland. Super super weird.

gnome, kde: No visual glitches, but frame rate isn't as fast as I'd like? Very usable.

cosmic: no visual glitches, smooth? like ... unexpectedly smooth.

@whack thank you for posting random snippets like this. Last time I tried Cosmic with an nvidia GPU, the Steam launcher itself had a ton of glitching.

Maybe I should try again

@tmaher I have odd issues with nvidia on gnome 48 (nouveau kernel driver) that I just assume are a fact of life and I don’t bother debugging 😅
