I think I need to look into retraining. Software development as a discipline very much feels dead now. Everything generative tools touch is rotten, and they've absolutely infested the software world to the point where nothing feels worth dealing with any more. I don't even want to use software at all now that it's so provably rotten.

What could I retrain as? I don't know. I have vanishingly few actual skills outside of this field. Before this, I was studying film and Japanese mythology, which doesn't really feel any more employable. I guess I just have to continue working inside the rot until I figure it out.

A curse, in fact many, on all who use generative AI.

@cda If you're fluent in Japanese you could become an English teacher
@trevdev I'm barely fluent in English, let alone another language. I'm also quite disturbed by children, so I'd be limited to teaching adults (which is a thing, but it's a smaller market).
@cda sorry this made me chuckle
@cda
What you wrote (thanks for sharing your thoughts!) made me wonder whether there are companies smart enough to see the opportunity in "made by humans". I mean, so many people despise slop machines. If I put my business hat on for a second, they are a great audience to market to - committed, easy to reach (just use the Fediverse), and willing to support other humans.
Sorry for being off topic, but I really hope those companies exist and that you will find one of them (or they'll find you)!
