It's wild to me that video games have been around for about half a century and we still haven't figured out anything other than the three main categories:

1. Solve a puzzle
2. Win a race (or other sport)
3. Kill/destroy all people/things that deserve it

Maybe it's not so mysterious. Games have winners and losers. There are only so many kinds of competitive settings.
