GNOME adding parental controls is good, because it will teach more kids how to become hackers.
i'm not joking, if i was a parent i would enable parental controls once, and once you figure out how to turn them off you have proved you know enough about computers to no longer need them
the real problem boils down to trust. if you don't trust your kid, your kid learns not to trust you. it's easy to turn up the filters to max and treat your kid like a prisoner and then pat yourself on the back for being the best parent, but treating a teenager like they're a toddler isn't good parenting. it's the opposite.
@eri Or you just give kids USB flashdrives with @tails_live / @tails / #Tails on them…
@eri growing up, I had a win10 laptop with parental controls. One of my techy friends booted up Linux on it through a thumb drive (idk what distro) and went into the system files to remove the restrictions. My parent were not happy to find this out lmao

@FilthyShrooms @eri top lel!
I literally reinstalled OSes since bs parental controls are.more.of a hinderance than anything.

Nowadays I just hand out Flashdrives...

@eri Somewhat related, my mom not letting me play violent video game until I stopped believe everything I saw in media. That day came when I got a Real Skate board, then realized it was practice and dedication that made you skate not the skateboard that made you skate. I remember fucking up something, then just going inside to cry.

Then I got to play COD so all was good for young me. Never was allowed to play GTA, tho, it grew to look boring compared to a good Tony Hawk.
