ToastedRavioliGiven that most/many ancient cultures had a good handle on astronomy, it would make sense if they associated west with death. Since the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, it makes some logical sense to associate the east with beginnings of things and the west with endings
“A good handle on astronomy” in this context meaning: observing which in direction the sun goes down.
