With more and more studies showing regular (gen)AI use to have a negative impact on cognitive skills, and me now knowing that my genes carry a higher dementia risk (I'm currently supporting my mom through her diagnosis), I can tell you that this is yet another reason (on top of *plenty* others) for me to stay THE FUCK away from most of these tools and only use them in very rare and limited cases.

AI Usage Policy

This is a short post summarising my principles about the use of genAI tools, and my concrete usage patterns. I use the word “genAI” here on purpose, to distinguish the current invasive crop of LLM based “AI” from long established machine learning and game dev concepts. Principles When I create something, I create it. I don’t use genAI for doing the work for me. Purely assistive use of AI is something I consider if needed (see below for the details on that), but that is rare.

@foosel Very understandable. I also think that we’re not doing our brains any favor by stopping to challenge them.

In my case I avoid any AI tools that generate text - apart from Deepl for some translations. I also use some AI Photoshop functions that extend an existing image without adding new content to it.
That's it for me... it's not much. I wonder how long I’ll be able to keep this up, given that we’re being bombarded with generative AI features from all sides.
