Universität zu Köln🔍 Neanderthals may have used birch tar not only for tool-making but also for treating wounds
Researchers at the #UniCologne, in collaboration with partners from Oxford, Liège, and Canada, have experimentally produced birch pitch in the same way Neanderthals did over 50,000 years ago.
The researchers investigated its antimicrobial properties and showed that it inhibits the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, a bacterial pathogen.
