@mhoye when I was a wee lad, we had a field trip to Mt St Helens as a combo biology and geology thing. it seems they tried a lot of things on the new lab that was the aftermath: I distinctly remember the guide at the interpretive center talking about the exploding mice of Mount St. Helens.
they’d tried re-seeding an area, but very little took, and then there was an invasion of mice to eat the seeds - which also damaged the things that were growing. in a quest not to follow the example of the Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly, they coated the seeds with a chemical that would react with the mouse’s digestive system.
probably the only thing I remember from that trip.
