A "funny" thing happened.

Yesterday, I got a message from someone who was replying to a tutoring application I sent for their job ad.

Yay! 🥳

I read the message, and he says that I already tutored for his son, but now he wants tutoring for his daughter, and sure enough if I look at the message history, I did tutor his son.

Er... okay. I'm glad I'm getting the job but... since I had tutored for his son already, and we did 11 sessions together, and I got five-star ratings from them.... why did they just not contact me rather than put up an ad?

Lost your contact info? or never actually saved it in the first place?

People, me included, tend to think they'll remember details that they will not so "Bob" in my phone becomes a total unknown entity until they respond to an ad linked to tutoring and then they become "Oh! Bob! How could I have forgotten?"

Or reasons why my address book now looks like "Bob-tutor" and "Cindy-plumber" 😝

@deirdrebeth

Doubtful. The tutoring platform never forgets. When he replied to my application, it was through the exact same messaging system I had been talking to him and his son before.

It is more likely that there was a lack of intra-family communication. Maybe they thought I did calculus, but not algebra 1. Or maybe they wanted to see what they'd get by posting an ad and decided that going with a known quantity (me) was better than going with some rando. 🤷
