I see that Tottenham are out, but I am glad they went out in style, with a 3-2 win at home to Atletico Madrid.

(I have some affection for Spurs in Europe, ever since that ridiculous pair of semi-finals when we came from 3-0 against Barca, and the next night they can back from 2-0 down at half time. Best ever two nights of football)

#LFC

@mike they beat Ajax?
@30yrdscreamer You don't remember? It was the night after LFC 4-0 Barcelona, and a truly amazing game.

@mike @30yrdscreamer Lucas Moura hat trick as a sub in like 15 minutes. It was insane. Until we had Bilbao last year, that night in Amsterdam was the apex of Spurs fandom in decades.

Today was a good showing, and if you realize the first 3 goals we gave up in Madrid were due to a ridiculously slippery pitch… we could have won this. I now think it’s a given that Spurs stays up.

@tatonka @30yrdscreamer "It's a given" is a strong statement. West Ham are looking like they've woken up. That said, my Nottingham Forest-supporting neighbour reckons they're going down, so you might be OK 🙂
@mike @30yrdscreamer I know it’s a strong statement but it’s based on performances. This weekend will tell us, I guess. Spurs plays Forest on Sunday. If Leeds loses to Brentford a cushion will start forming. The players at Spurs are too good for that position, they were just playing the most insipid brand of football ever imagined, aka Frankball. If you think Slot is bland and boring, just look at Spurs about 2 months ago.

@tatonka @30yrdscreamer I guess this is good timing for a direct match-up between Spurs and Forest. Still, the Recent League Form table doesn't look good for Spurs.

(And BTW., I don't AT ALL think Slot is bland and boring!)

@mike @30yrdscreamer it’s good timing for sure. The form table is too binary, it doesn’t have enough nuance. That last L felt very different than the first, second, or third. I also don’t think Slot is boring, I’m just echoing what I saw from some Liverpool fans, should’ve realized you wouldn’t think that way. I think you all have been unlucky some times. Plus Salah is brilliant but trying to match the bar he set last year was never going to end well.

@tatonka @30yrdscreamer You are right of course that a sequence of Ls, Ws and Ds omit a ton of important information. I will say that in the recent 1-1 draw, I didn't feel Spurs lacked commitment!

Yes, Liverpool have been on the end of some rough luck of many kinds this season, starting with Jota's sudden death. I trust our owners to see past that and understand that the bones are good.

@mike @30yrdscreamer Nothing you have said have made me more jealous of Liverpool fans than “I trust our owners” 😂

@tatonka @30yrdscreamer Yes, I thank my lucky stars for this every day! When I look at, for example, the absolute clown-show at Nottingham Forest, it makes me grateful all over again.

(And yet, there is small but vociferous part of our fan-base that wants FSG out. What on earth do think will happen if they get what they want? Idiots.)
