Is it impolite to crosspost someone else's post to another community on Lemmy without saying anything? - Lemmy.ca

cross-posted from: https://piefed.europe.pub/c/asklemmy/p/266879/is-it-impolite-to-crosspost-someone-else-s-post-to-another-community-on-lemmy-witho [https://piefed.europe.pub/c/asklemmy/p/266879/is-it-impolite-to-crosspost-someone-else-s-post-to-another-community-on-lemmy-witho] > I feel like on mainstream social media this is done pretty thoughtlessly and it’s a norm but on Lemmy, with the much smaller userbase, I kinda felt like… it’s like riding on someone else’s coat tails? Or is it just me? > > > > Edit: of course if it’s artwork or text, obviously then I’d make it explicitly clear it’s not mine but I mean news articles, memes, things like that.

I have no idea. You can say ‘yoink’, I believe.

Isn’t there a crosspost function that will link the original and show the OP’s attribution?
No. At least I wouldn’t give a fuck if someone did it with mine.

I never mind when people crosspost things that I post. It’s just a way of dispersing content to relevant communities.

Also, the cross-posting feature usually automatically provides a link to the original.

Let’s see if OP complains lol
Just had a brief moment of panic where I worried this was the one I already serious-replied to
I think that as long as you use the crosspost function, and it’s visible who the OOP is, you are fine. When my posts get crossposted, I take it as a badge of honor.
