Liberals capitulate to fascists when things get tough
Liberals capitulate to fascists when things get tough
the world of leftist activism
What has this meant in practice?
If you mean you’re going to not pontificate in leftist forums online, fine, whatever. Oh no.
But if you’re doing meaningful leftist work like volunteering with community organizations, helping the less fortunate or any one of hundreds of meaningful, real life actual leftist activities, and you’re going to stop helping people because you think things are going to get worse… Well, I can’t tell if that’s more selfish or weak.
Remember when we couldn’t have a vote on medicare for all because “we don’t have the votes yet” and because “McCarthy will become speaker of the house” and then when the democrats clearly demonstrated that they actually just want to do what republicans want to do McCarthy became speaker of the house and we got nothing?
Not having the votes yet is stupid, Bernie Sanders and AOC could’ve used their popularity to twist every arm in congress to vote the correct way on that issue, but they didn’t even though they both said they were going to do that and knew all about FDR and LBJ’s way of doing politics
neither party cares about us. Trump promised not to start any wars, Obama pretended to drink flint michigan’s water and Biden said he had “no empathy” for people with student debt and “give me a break” to belittle your struggles with that debt that has constantly increasing interest
Kamala Harris as AG of california was in favor of civil asset forfeiture, prison slave labor and she giggled about throwing the parents of truant children in jail…she also laughed about throwing a pot smoker in jail.
They’re all horrible
I hear your frustration. It’s so hard to watch the people around you get that close to doing the right thing–we had such good momentum for a while–and then veer towards the opposite end of the behavioral spectrum like they were pushed. That kind of discouragement feels fucking terrible.
Take whatever time you need to heal up. If that’s forever, it’s forever; I’m sorry we left you in this state. I don’t blame you for walking away, but if having someone to commiserate about the ridiculous state of affairs would help you sort out the internal chaos and make it easier to live with, please reach out. I’m always down for political gossip.
