that's right, it goes in the ~/Downloads folder
@green Never to be found again.

@hannah @green

Nah, that's when the Downloads folder goes into "Backups/Backups/old/old/Download"

@green it goes into the ~/NOTbackedup/binaries folder
@green
Another reminder on how rigid the MacOS is - you couldn't rename it, you couldn't move it.
@gemelen @green Nah, I've had ~/Downloads be a symlink to ~/Desktop forever and that works fine.
@green the modern /tmp/
@theking @green I used to use /tmp a lot but putting stuff in ~/Downloads and then having a script delete stuff modified >1 week ago means I'm not using precious memory
@izzy @green @theking I do the same except I do it manually when I feel like it
@N33R @green @theking doing it that way resulted in my entire HDD becoming ~/Downloads after a few years
@izzy @green @theking well that's the difference: I have no mercy, if the data wants to live it should've moved out of the Downloads folder
@N33R @green @theking I also have no mercy this just avoids me leaving stuff there by inattention
@izzy @green @theking inb4 making ~/Downloads2
@green nooo >:| i thought i was immune to the square.. turns out it just needed different phrasing lol
@green No, it goes into /media/seconddrive/Downloadsbackup
@green

for whatever reason I've set it as ~/load on xdg user dirs

I
@green
"It goes in the square hole"
@green i just put it in the /run/media/(user)/storage/recycle\ bin
(this is because the main drive does not have that much space)
@green NUUUUU

but also so true ;-;
@green next time my downloads folder will be cleaner. I swearrr
@ChaosKitsune mine is actually pretty clean. only 8 files. everything goes in the downloads folder, and then gets moved into it's proper place
@green I have a cronjob that regularly runs find "/home/fiona/downloads" -mindepth 1 -mtime +2 -exec rm -rf '{}' \;

And by knowing that I have that, I don’t keep files in there, that I may still need.
@green @Fiona there is a name for this concept where you delete everything regularly by default and can’t remind the name
@green nur echt mit nem archiv-ordner in ~/Downloads!

@green

For any one missing the reference.
