A Japanese Game Studio Now Asks Art Applicants To Draw a Picture During Their Interview, To Prove They Don’t Use GenAI - Pawb.Social

Japan has a bigger problem with AI use than you’d think. Like the stuff from this guy. Or this guy. Or this guy.

Then there are the Easterners who made entire games with AI. Like the Chinese “devs” who had an AI create this game. Or this game.

Kinda telling how most ai slop games are visual novels, the least likely genre to fuck up basic functionality
There isnt much to fuck up in a visual novel really. Although it does make things like renpy look so much worse than they are, i’ve seen very complex games made with renpy, visual novels still, but like you could walk around places and interact with characters, the characters had schedules even.
I’m not surprised at all, Manga-style characters must be so goddamn easy to make with genAI considering the quantity of training data and how similar it all is.
Wait, they did not used do this before AI? Did they just hire solely based on portfolio or what?

Pretty much. If there was an art test it isn’t fine life. More take it away and do it over a day or two.

I can see why this would now be a problem.

Also reputation: former classmates or colleagues might be working there already

That’s the artist equivalent to “write the sort function on the whiteboard” interview

Honestly I don’t know why they haven’t always been doing this. Some people are just shitty at interviewing applicants, I guess

Anyone else thinking that lead pic of the woman at the dual monitors is AI?
What are we looking at here?
