@sean_ae is Steels another MPC track on Quaristice? you mentioned Perlence being an MPC piece by Rob, iirc.

@c_reider the main riff and breaky bits on perlence were Rob (he started it on mpc) but the md and mm stuff was me, and then I did a couple of the versions, and the editing
I still think of it as his tune though

Steels is just him though, you’d have to ask him what he used :)

@sean_ae i had thought it might be Rob's.

@c_reider We were chatting about that the other day actually, the mpc1000 with jjos was peak, best ever

He used it a lot more than I did but I bagged one at the time and still have it, def a keeper

@sean_ae i have been seriously mulling getting a sampler for a while, got torn between MPC (probably mpc one because it's cheap) and octatrack because it's weird.
@c_reider sorry to bother you but the octatrack is the best machine I've ever owned and so I have to recommend it. modern mpcs are just bad computers
@Aleums @c_reider yeah that’s exactly what they look like
@sean_ae @c_reider I've only played with them a little but it really feels like you're using software instead of a machine. the OT though, that thing can get very strange. the sampling workflow is very very good. it's basically the last elektron machine in production with the weird magic of the machinedrum era

@Aleums @c_reider maybe I’ll get one

Been putting it off for 15 years, I guess they won’t be around forever

Prob wouldn’t use it for ages but then one day, might be fun

@sean_ae @Aleums i had been leaning toward the ot, but the pads don't seem as user friendly for tapping out beats as the mpcs are.
now that i'm reading about jjos, i'm even more torn, lol. not even sure i have the time and capacity to learn a complicated system like those rn, but...

@c_reider @sean_ae @Aleums

fwiw i been using the 1010blackbox since summer. it's weird in a lot of ways but i committed to it and i like lots about it now, its a bit like having a paired down s5000 that fits in your backpocket. im using w an external seq tho, don't know about using it purely on its own...

@c_reider @sean_ae @Aleums

it was the smallest thing i could find that had multiple output functionality. 3 stereo pairs lets me process different groupings of parts with diff FX etc

@trainvids @c_reider @Aleums it looks.. weird :)

@sean_ae @c_reider @Aleums

it is weird....
why do you think i've been trying to sort all these sample folder picking methods in max?

at least there the bugs are my fault the overwhelming majority of the time...

😂

@trainvids @c_reider @Aleums :D
I read the SOS review and there’s not much mention of the sound of it (not weird for a sampler review but you know, they vary)

Cos I’m guessing it sounds alright at least

@sean_ae @trainvids @c_reider @Aleums remember reading that the noisefloor was quite high/noticeable with some low-freq samples. But that was the v1.
(fwiw that Rossum Assimil8or is still the contemporary sampler to beat, in terms of sound. It's a beauty :) Tiny screen, tho.)
@ghostmeet @trainvids @c_reider @Aleums ah yeah the phase mod thing, someone linked me to this a bit back - looks like a right doss

@sean_ae @trainvids @c_reider @Aleums it's lush, but I don't use the phase mod much (would be interesting on CV samples, though).

Best thing is how brilliant the pitch shifting sounds. The lowest octave just doesn't sound as grainy and grey as other samplers I've used.

@ghostmeet @trainvids @c_reider @Aleums not like an EPS then :)
