I doubt switching to vertical tabs in the browser will make me feel much less deranged (spoiler: derangement is all around), but I am trying it. Not winning yet.

Lotta apps still have tabs at the top and I've never been a huge sidebar fan?

Sidebars should be stable grab handles I reckon.

tree style ... interesting but i've never really gelled with explorer layout. i can see how it would work for more categorical minds :D

by "stable grab handles" i mean a manual selection of shortcuts (eg Finder or Nautilus sidebar shortcuts) with predictable locations.

Yeah well my latest "innovation" with tabs is just to use the tab groups in Chrome and/or Firefox, with hundreds of tabs
still at the top of the browser, horizontally

@joemcl those do seem useful, I expect they exist in vertical too! Will look
