It strikes me as... odd, I suppose? that this article spends so much time, especially in its second half, anxiously trying to both-sides what is by any measure abusive, several-red-flags behaviour. (Even if merely "thoughtless".) https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/ng-interactive/2026/mar/17/alpine-divorce-abandoned-hiking-trail
Women are being abandoned by their partners on hiking trails. What’s behind ‘alpine divorce’?

As stories of men leaving their dates in ‘sketchy situations’ go viral, experts say these incidents could stem from big egos and poor communication

I usually prefer to just quote from the article itself, especially the part that seems (to me) most thought-provoking. In this case... it's just so very strange, and was so marked.
@lilithsaintcrow
Attempted Negligent Homicide.
@lilithsaintcrow The "both sides"ing feels weird because it doesn't address why there's only one side being accused of this behavior. Why are male-coded individuals the ones primarily accused of abandoning their hiking partners? Because female-coded people are socalized NOT TO LEAVE ANYONE BEHIND, even when it's inconvenient or boring. Good lord.
@Karadarr I don't think that's the *entire* reason, but it is certainly a very large factor.
