@dahan I appreciate it! Unfortunately the 5800XT is a 4th gen Ryzen so StoreMI would fail to install. :( AMD only licensed it for 2nd and 3rd gen Ryzen.
As for what StoreMI/FuzeDrive is, think an ad-hoc, software-defined SSHD (hybrid drive). See: https://dragonchat.org/@baralheia/116249138569027267
@garbrys AMD StoreMI/Enmotus FuzeDrive was a way of basically using an SSD to act as cache for a larger SATA HDD, but in a way that made the combined disks look like a single drive to Windows. The software would watch files you opened most often and copy them over to the SSD so they would launch faster. FuzeDrive was a paid product for all architectures, but AMD offered a free, processor-locked version of the same software specifically for users who owned certain Ryzen CPUs. This version went EOL in 2020. AMD later released a 2nd version of StoreMI based on completely different technology that's incompatible with the first version. The licensing server for FuzeDrive no longer exists as Enmotus went out of business around 2021, and StoreMI won't run on anything that doesn't pass the CPU/chipset check; it only worked with systems based on AMD's x399, 400-series, and 500-series chipsets (Threadripper and 2nd/3rd Gen Ryzens IIRC)
@baralheia Ah, I wonder how strict the installer is about 3rd vs. 4th gen.
I do also have a 3700X that's slightly flaky (random "cache hierarchy error"s causing a reboot)--but the flakiness can be fixed/worked around by bumping up Vcore in the BIOS by a tiny bit. I didn't trust it though, so I replaced it with the 5800XT.
@baralheia FWIW, I tried running the 1.5.3.22296 installer in a VM and got "ERROR [216]: StoreMI is not supported for this motherboard. Please see http://www.amd.com/storemi for supported software." I then started the installer on the physical computer and it got past that and showed the installer welcome page. I didn't actually try installing it though.
But that does seem to suggest that it's not checking the CPU that closely.
