FBI director Kash Patel confirms the FBI is buying location data and histories that can be used for tracking people. It's the first time in recent years that the FBI has said it's actively buying this information, without needing a warrant.

@zackwhittaker
Guess what? Not having consumer protection laws doesn't work out for consumers. Who could have guessed?
@zackwhittaker can't say this surprises me.

@zackwhittaker "If any other person can buy it, and the FBI can buy it"

Does this mean that 'anybody' has the authority to arrest you or deport you? Not that I would expect Tom Cotton to understand what the Constitution means.

@zackwhittaker

Why else did the NSA want 9-11 to violate rights with the patriot act? So they didn't get the bureaucracy headache submitting warrants to violate the 4th amendment.

@zackwhittaker "If any other person can buy it, and the FBI can buy it, and it helps them locate a depraved child molester or savage cartel leader, I would certainly hope the FBI is doing anything it can to keep Americans safe"

Sure there government, your totally just going to use that data only for that and not track and punish the people you don't like.

@zackwhittaker Well, this sure won't help them find me given how much of the commercial internet I block. NO app ever gets my location, and it's always off on phones along with no Google Play Services. I hope they pay extra for data on me and get a bunch of NULLs for their money.

"FBI buying Americans' location data..."

...with Americans' taxpayer dollars.

@zackwhittaker ...the first time they've admitted it but of course they've been doing it the whole time
