Reduced screentime by agreement, sure. Reduced screentime by OS-level enforcement... Well, it might teach kids ways to look for bypasses, make them better hackers.

@ozzelot @f0x @zaire @kirby OS-level could be trivially done for bedtime already. Just add "/sbin/shutdown -hP 23:00" to root crontab and set a boot password.
I'd be more irked by the firewall implications, but I think a good UI for such things could be generally helpful as well. Personally, I'm still annoyed that plain old iptables was replaced by UFW and program specific rules.
Either way, good hacker training 🙂
@unrtst
Yeah and a gui could at least warn you before shutting down everything haha, so one does not loose data. This is imho a great agreement with a kid, to also give them time to safe their game/data.
@ozzelot @f0x @zaire @kirby

@rugk @ozzelot @f0x @zaire @kirby FWIW, shutdown with a time, as opposed to "shutdown -h now", does issue warnings. In fact, since I only use "now" at home, I had to look up the argument usage for specifying a time!

Just wait for the kid to learn he can CTRL+ALT+F1 and start X directly running his game or app with no window manager. Or yank the plug and boot from a USB based distro.
