@jalefkowit I was a Kagi subscriber for like... a single month, until I read about their founder's concerning behavior. This just reassures me that I made the right call canceling.

@scott For sure. If you're comfortable, I'd love to know what you think. I was disappointed to cancel, but it felt like the best thing for me. I want alternative search engines to succeed. Also, hey California neighbor! :)

@theorangetheme well the organizational critique resonated with my experience of the product. I really only use search. Itā€™s great; more useful results for me than DuckDuckGo, which I used for years. Great to have no ads, but my ad blocking regimen means almost no ads on DDG or anywhere else, anyway.

I want to learn more about where Kagi search results come from. That rant alluded to Bing and other sources. But DDG uses Bing, too, and results are not nearly as good.

Certainly from Kagi i would prefer a no-AI plan. (I have the basic plan without AI ā€œgoodies.ā€)

All that aside, the CEOā€™s behavior seems weird and gross and I donā€™t want to support that.

I certainly donā€™t need or want branded socks and t shirts. I just want good search!

Iā€™m not aware of better alternatives. Iā€™ve seen a handful of promising super indie search engines (even self hosted!!) but they donā€™t seem ready for general use.
