A couple decades ago I read a book that made me want to go visit Târgoviște and Bucharest and i am told they are lovely.
There used to be a country roughly that shape but it was politically unstable and started world war 1.
Austria-Hungary was a LOT bigger than just the Carpathian Basin. Though that was part of it.

It’s a reference to Greater Hungary. It sounds like you’re confusing the HRE and Austro-Hungarian Empire.
