Working on some Modern Infrastructure. It's taken me cumulative days to get a development environment going with all the moving parts in it. I'm left feeling exhausted and ashamed

It's like there's no fallback. So much configuration, so many credentials, so many components. The effort it's taken to test changes to one API endpoint is incredible

I've made this harder by trying to run things in an environment i control. Finding out what's needed by leaving it out. It turns out you need all of it

But that's worth knowing, from primary evidence. I agree with you 100%, but I'm usually at the other extreme, starting from having many pieces, and not knowing if all are required.

@tomchadwin when did we decide we needed any of it?? Is everyone an SRE now? I feel like i've been asleep for 10 years
@ultrazool @tomchadwin "this entire AWS account could have been a raspberry pi"
@emily_s @ultrazool Genuinely laughed out loud.
