I have a question, and I'm curious what other people think. My mother was describing where we live as semi-rural: it's suburban, but suburbs butting up against farms. I can easily walk to farm fields and sugar bush, land used for agriculture, but my street and neighborhood is 100% suburbs. I wouldn't personally consider it any kind of "rural." But it got me wondering, what IS the dividing line? How would you describe the difference between a suburban and rural area, or the transition between city and country?

Please also include what type of area you live in and/or grew up in for context.

@idzie mixed rural and suburb is called exurban https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exurb
