Groaning at probably having to finally “up”grade to Liquid Glass because of the latest round of iOS security breaches, hanging out with my parents and wincing at the cartoonish look of the latest macOS on their screens, and…

…I’m just once again hit with my periodic nostalgia for the days when it was possible to pin the Dock to the upper corner instead of having it always centered (and thus having my pinned apps always appear in a predictable location).

These little things are so big when one lives with them every day.

If you are at Apple and you ever sneak back in even a hidden setting to pin the Dock at one end instead of centering it, I will buy you the pastry of your choice.
@inthehands I still think the NeXT OS "dock"/clip thing was a superior UX. I wish someone other than Windowmaker/Afterstep had it.

@Unlikelylass

The NeXT UI holds up incredibly well even with 4 decades of hindsight. I could quibble with many details, but damn did they do a good job.

@inthehands Seriously, what were they thinking? The only way to have any kind of useful Dock muscle memory is to always have enough icons in it that there's no space left on the ends.
@inthehands it is always a struggle to help people understand why things "moved around" or changed behavior just because they didn't religiously follow tech updates.
@inthehands I got the shiny thing and I think it didn't last because I turned on accessability features and now all looks plain and contarsted. Not saying it's pretty, I'm saying it's not crap. Or at least win3.1 crap.
@mdione @inthehands reduce motion and other accessibility switches make the system a lot more usable for me too. Sometimes after a new version reboot i notice the widgets don't all immediately get the memo and i see a bit of squishy bling before it all calms back down

@inthehands

UI/UX has been a steadily dying skillset at apple over the last decade.

such a pity, since that's exactly how they got such market penetration originally.

@inthehands IJWTS apple’s been good about security updating the old OSs
@inthehands What breaches? 👀 I've been so resistant to upgrading, to the point where I'm considering if it would be possible for this to be my last smartphone...
