While we use our friends' preferred names to refer to them, they will not receive mail unless it is addressed to the name that is in the jail's system. Could the state change this? Probably.But as of now they won't. This is just one of many instances where the state chooses to disrespect our friends.
Trans inmates have also been denied hrt medication and trans identity was brought up by the prosecution in order to attempt to discredit some of the defendants. Trans women in particular are an overrepresented demographic within the prison industrial complex.
