I have played Fallen Enchantress / Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes (from back in 2013) and I thought it had a lot of potential, I liked the tactical battles and hero focus.

The economy system seems a bit boring (although it’s not usual for 4X games to have relatively primitive economy systems) and there were some seemingly minor, but extremely annoying things about the UI/UX.

Fallen Enchantress is 4X strategy game from the makers of Sins of a Solar Empire and Galactic Civilizations. Build a civilization in the magical world of Elemental. Recruit heroes, train armies, build cities, forge alliances and save the world in this rich world where it's never the same game twice.

But I expected that from Stardock. :)

Exactly my thoughts. They say that it’s improved graphics but it looked practically the same
