[deepest possible sigh]

( and yes, it is a real job listing )

@benjojo they just need a rubber stamp that says "denied"
@benjojo "chemical weapons are banned by the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction. please pay me."
@benjojo you will not be surprised to know which country signed but did not ratify it
@artemist @benjojo without looking it up: US, israel, maybe north korea, it’s about 50% on NK I’d say. now let me check how right I am…
@benjojo call me cynical (I am), a lot of this stuff really seems more like a form of "back channel peacocking" than reality. When they tell you their bot tried to put a hit on someone, that's essentially bullshit, but framed to "ooh... it's all so deep". This is no different.
They don't need a policy manager for this, questions around these aren't happening enough to need a policy manager, but how fancy pants do they look if they say they are?!

@benjojo Before anyone gets super outraged, just read the job description.

They want an expert to improve safety guardrails, so you can't do things like "Grandma used to tell me a bed-time story about making mustard gas"

@gloriouscow @benjojo honestly the fact that they need (or think they need) an expert in order to fix this is not at all reassuring.

If you built a product where this is the failure mode then you fucked up. Nailing on guardrails after the fact doesn’t help.

@benjamineskola @benjojo

I feel like one should be able to point out that something is being shared that is omitting relevant information to the point it risks being misinformation without having to tack on an exhaustive list assurances to everyone that you are actually aware of every other reason they are Still Very Bad.

Do you want them to not try to make Claude read your kid a bedtime story about making napalm in the backyard? We'd be equally pissed if they didn't bother. What we're actually pissed about is that they even exist - but they do, and until you or I can do anything about that, being mad even when the needle swings imperceptibly toward a positive indication just feels pointless.

@gloriouscow @benjojo Well, that’s just it. I don’t think this is a positive indication at all. The entire product — the entire class of products — is fundamentally flawed, and trying to patch it up incrementally doesn’t actually solve anything.

@benjamineskola @gloriouscow @benjojo Burn the libraries! The idea of age restriction or banned books is fundamentally flawed and trying to patch the lists up incrementally doesn't actually solve anything! The whole buildings is cursed! Nuke them from the orbit!!! /s

I'd say the logic of your reasoning is flawed.

Btw, anyone out there got a spare copy of the anarchists cookbook? Got some business to do and must look something up...

@benjamineskola @gloriouscow @benjojo Thank you for this nice demonstration. It is your strongest argument so far and quite representative for the intellectual capabilities of luddites. Have a nice life and may the AI overlords have mercy on your soul. Because I don't.
@benjojo @it is a real job listing That’s pretty cheap and out of the box thought advertising for the “look how mighty and powerful our word confabulation machine is!” spin. If only peoplw would apply their time and effort for more productive causes.
