Parliament rejects assisted dying legislation

Speaking to journalists after leaving the chamber, McArthur said he was “devastated” by the result, adding the system “has been failing dying Scots for too long” and that many will feel let down by the result.

@Wen many people, including myself will find this hard. The prospect of people suffering and being frightened I find really disturbing, epsecially when at least some of that could have been avoided via #assisteddying. Life is precious but so is quality of life, even in the final chapter.

@rodlux I watched my partner die over a year. The palliative care was as good as it gets - just not adequate. I will not go that way.

@Wen Hello, I am very sorry to hear that you have lost a loved one quite recently also that the palliative care was perhaps not as needed.

@rodlux It does need to improve but for some it will never be adequate.
