The politicians are finally learning?

“The discount means that if you go to work as a teacher, a bartender or software developer you pay double the amount of tax than someone who received the same amount of money taking advantage of soaring property prices by buying and selling investment properties. It means that someone who speculates on housing pays a lower rate of tax than the carpenters, plumbers and electricians who actually build the houses.”

Report reveals the Howard-era settings are helping fuel intergenerational inequality in Australia’s housing market

@phocks people will hate the idea, of course, because everyone aspires to be a landlord - we’ve been indoctrinated for decades :(
I’d like to think it would go better if they phrased it like “someone who speculates on housing contributes less to society than the carpenters…” but it wouldnt, people are selfish sods and don’t realise the greater benefit we all receive by pooling our resources with this thing called “taxes”.
I hope the pollies can pull off the big sell required to get this one through! (And the Greens finally realise that the perfect is the enemy of the good :( )
