A discussion today reminded me of the one-word term for believers in the #USA as a #democracy and/or a land of #freedom.
The word is #racist.
Those 2 claims can be applied without severe qualification only by excluding the experiences of #NativeAmerican and #AfricanAmerican people.
The #US was built on slavery and genocide. It remained an #apartheid state until at least the 1960s.
Calling that "freedom" and "democracy" is racism. But most Americans are propagandised into #denial.

These facts of American history are disputed only by the most extreme rightwingers, who sadly are no longer a marginalised fringe.
Yet most of American political discourse is conducted on the blatantly false assertions of democracy and freedom.
I have seen many Americans expliode in rage at my observation that freedom is incompatible with being the most imprisoned nation on earth. More thoughtful Muricans just sigh, sadly. But the price of expressing that view is #cancellation.
Cognitive dissonance upsets people.
