What are we to make of the fact that there is only one candidate for next Debian Project Leader?

Seems like no one else wanted the job, and although Sruthi has been a candidate before, they have never held the position before.

It has always seemed like a fantastically hard job to me.

Debian Project Leader Elections 2026: Candidate

@grifferz It's not unprecedented. Since 1999, there have been four previous DPL elections with only one candidate, in 2011, 2016, 2018, and 2023. It happens sometimes.

Debian Voting Information

@aspragg @grifferz but in 2011, 2018, and 2023, those were uncontested re-elections of the previous year’s DPL. Only in 2016 does it seem to be an uncontested election where the candidate isn’t the current leader.

(So, it’s still not unprecedented but it’s closer to unprecedented.)
