A little bit about why I write stories set in the 18th century, what’s unique about it, and why it’s a fascinating period in LGBTQ+ history

Why I Write About 18th Century Sodomy – LupeWrites

@lupestripe Funny enough I set mine in the 1980s because I think there's not a lot of works set in that decade, which is a period I find very interesting. IRL it wasn't a great time for LGBTQ+, but I set them in an alternate universe which does give me some wiggle room but I still tackle those issues because I think it's important to do so.

That's why my protagonist is a freelance investigative journalist. He gets to see these problems and write about them whilst having more editorial freedom. Working in a fairly liberal newspaper helps too, but not always. He's had some clashes with his editor-in-chief because of scoops the latter didn't want to publish. But it's the best newspaper in town so that's where he works, even though he's a freelancer.

Sorry for this wall of text.

@macthepherson it sounds very interesting, I’ve just written a story set in the present day around a journalist trying to cover trans stories

I have an idea for a 1980s story of my own that I should get round to writing some day
