I really don't care if you find those big commercial LLM chatdroids 'useful', you are intentionally stealing from my friends, knowingly killing the planet, and deliberately condoning destroying lives, and therefore unfollowed as I do not wish to be an accomplice.

I'm just funny that way.

@teledyn
Environmental issues are real, and also causing some artists to lose pay. I understand to a point, but yet I too use image generation as you very well know. I also know I could never afford an artist for every project, and in the media, time is of the essence.
Not every article we put out has an AI image, in fact a very small percentage. Most press releases come with the media, or I'll look at such places as unsplash, but when I need something that is unavailable, I have no regrets.
@teledyn
I'm also an artist, I could spend a week on making all my own. Well, you know I might as well shutdown then. For the record though. I run my own LLM Image generation on my own equipment 80 percent of the time.

@sflorg

to be fair, I also run whisper to transcribe lectures and an image model that is almost useful tagging my photos and a music genre model that is hilariously wrong most of the time.

That's why I specified the big commercial LLM chatdroids, an entirely different beast not just because of the theft and eco-damage, but also very much their intent.

@teledyn
Problem isn't AI though, it's humanity. People turn every good tool to something disastrous. The "Super Information Highway" now know as the internet quickly became filled with crime and such. Remember, a hammer can be used to buildโ€”it can also killโ€”people make tools a problem. There does need to be a tighter restriction of AI image used in Social Media. Anyhow, we are reading the same book, hopefully we can get to the same page, and read it the same.

@sflorg the problem isn't the tool, it's the misapplication, fraudulent claims, lack of culpability, and yes, humans will defraud their mother if there's a buck to be made, but this AI thing is, by ALL measures, orders of magnitude worse, largely for the reasons cited by #juicemedia

I also do not condone bombing children. I played in the ruins of WWII and climbed over walls topped in broken glass and barbed wire. So I naturally avoid funding warmongers, as insignificant as my share would be.

@teledyn
That was so perfect, funny, and unfortunately not at the same time.

@sflorg I have a paper somewhere, recent, on cutting edge cosmology, and the illustrations are hand-drawn with stick people. Makes me so happy when I meet people who put the message ahead of presentation dressing.

I am, universally, skipping past anything that leads with an AI image, when I can tell. Sure, back in 78 I was sampling records by other artists, but _I_ chose what bits to take, know where I took them (should anyone ask) and placed them deliberately in the tape construction (yes, razor blades and scotch tape).

Eventually AI will pull the bait and switch, lock everyone out of Knowledge (so said Sam this week) and thereafter the stand-up comics won't deliver jokes, they will just recite prompts and the audience will laugh.

@sflorg

I also have a six-panel wall mural montage Kelly and I constructed from several dozen old Billboard magazines and two copies of that 70s Hipgnosis book, the royalties due on it must be astronomical!

By the way, thanks for always being around. You are a good person that speaks your mind. Nice trait, never change that about yourself.
I'm feeling weak today, so think I'm out for the day. Be well
Oh, by the way. I'll be 66 Friday, and I demand a song and dance. ๐Ÿ˜
