Things that I (shouldn't, but do) assume all reasonable people do:

  • Using a web browser with a good ad blocker and a Reader mode.
  • Knowing that most paywalls can be defeated by having your ad blocker turn off all JavaScript for the site.
  • Using strong, different passwords for everything, which means:
  • Using a password manager of some kind, even the one built into the browser
  • Using ctrl + and ctrl - as view zoom shortcuts
  • reporting spammers
  • avoiding social media without chronological views
  • listen to music through cheap-but-good headphones or in-ears
  • avoid many convenient things (like anything involving real bank or credit information on your phone) because it's obviously a horrendous security risk
  • not that last one, huh?

@dashdsrdash You're right, but I monitor my incoming and outgoing transactions on bank account and credit card daily, and when fraud is caught quickly, your bank/credit institution of choice SHOULD be handling it appropriately, which means canelling the transaction and making you whole.

Relying on this IS a risk, but so iss crossing the street, even after looking both ways.

@dashdsrdash I have a pair of cheap headphones plugged into my computer, but I don’t put them on. Computers should be silent.

@Virginicus

Specifically, computers should follow orders. If you want them silent, so they should be. I like them to play music for me from time to time.

@dashdsrdash literally all of this except the no bank on phone thing, how the hell else am I going to catch when the bank fucks up and draws against my account again for a check I didn't issue, I don't even have checks.
